Video Installation / 22:00 / Stereo / Wooden Construction + 2 Chairs + Table / Print / 2019
Tischtopia 1.0 (engl. Tabletopia 1.0) only looks like a kitchen table. It’s a place and a nonplace. Six activists of Color build a bridge between the present moment and a possible tomorrow.
What would a world without racism, sexism and classism look like?
Visitors are invited to take a seat and immerse themselves in the space designed by six BIPoC perspectives via headphones.
The status quo is not only questioned, but it is table-topized (tischtopiert) about visions and utopias of a pluralistic society.
The experiences of the parents’ generation are also incorporated, and the visitors are invited to participate in the narrative of the six persons in a development that is shaped by the self-empowerment and moments of everyday-lived utopias.
The empty chair invites not only to listen, but also to reflect on one’s own positioning, especially in relation to other subjects.
On the wall, in direct view of visitors the questions that were asked to the six people in the interview and the questions they ask their virtual counterpart in the video can be read.
The installation is part of the x_topia series, which deals with space and perception. The works were shown for the first time in April 2019 as part of the solo exhibition entitled Moltkerei Werkstatt.
